Bear Glacier Sea KayakingBear Glacier is the largest glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park. This remote Alaska wilderness area is about 30 roadless miles south of Seward and on the west side of Resurrection Bay. This trip departs from Seward, Alaska and we have 2 options to get you out to our Bear Glacier Wilderness Retreat where this incredible sea kayaking adventure starts. You can go out by water taxi, this is a scenic boat ride along Resurrection Bay's coastline and the least costly way for you to experience sea kayaking paradise at Bear Glaciers. The other option is a scenic flight seeing trip to Bear Glacier by helicopter and if your budget allows this combination helicopter flight seeing and sea kayaking makes for a great day of adventure in Alaska.

We are the only Seward kayaking company to provide you with a dry suit to keep you warm, dry, and help protect you from hypothermia in Alaska's cold waters. Other Seward sea kayaking outfitters provide (or rent at extra cost) rain gear and rubber boots that offer little protection.
  • Specialty Equipment- No hidden or added costs to rent gear such as rain gear or rubber boots. We supply the specialized outdoor gear you need. Other outfitters may require you to have or pay extrato rent gear. We supply our guests with dry suits, pogies (kayaking gloves) to keep your hands warm, rain hat to keep your head dry, and dry bags to pack your gear in.

ITINERARY **
Trip Planning - Seward, Alaska is just 125 miles south of Anchorage. You can reach Seward by road or on the Alaska Railroad's Coastal Classic Train. If you need help with transportation Backcountry Safaris would be happy to package bus or Alaska Railroad transportation to Seward as well as overnight lodging in Seward if needed.

Bear Glacier Kenai Fjords National ParkDeparture times depends on what option you choose, water taxi or helicopter. Water taxi times depend on Resurrection Bay's tides; call or email for departure times on the day you have interest in. Helicopter access is the most flexible and you can choose a departure that fits your schedule.

Our guides will pick you at your hotel, then we meet our water taxi or helicopter for transportation out to Bear Glacier Wilderness Retreat. After landing, we get dressed in dry suits to help protect us from cold glacier water and head out to explore the maze of icebergs in front of Bear Glacier.

Bear Glacier Kenai FjordsWe'll stop on the scenic glacier moraine next to Bear Glacier. You're free to take some close-up photos of the glacier and explore the moraine as our guides prepares lunch. Deli lunch, hot drinks, and snacks are included. After getting our bellies full we head out again by kayaks to see the front of the glacier and maybe get to see a glacier calving to see how the giant icebergs are formed. While continuing our exploration we keep a look out for harbor seals lying on icebergs. Harbor seals come into the lake seeking protection from the Orca whales that cruise the narrow glacier moraine beach on the ocean side of Bear Glacier Lake. We'll also keep an eye out for other wildlife in the area that area includes black bears, mountain goats, coyotes, wolverines and a variety of birds that nest in the area.

In the afternoon we meet our water taxi or the helicopter the for return to Seward and your hotel. where we say our goodbyes.
