Denali National Park Mt. McKinley Flightseeing From Kantishna
During your visit to Kantishna either by taking one of Denali Park Bus Tours or staying at one of Denali Lodges in Kantishna you can take advantage of your proximity to North America's tallest mountain, Denali (Mt. McKinley), by enjoying a flight over breathtaking wilderness and the mountain.
If you're taking the Denali Park Bus Tour into the park a flight seeing trip over Denali is a great alternate instead taking the five-hour bus ride out of of the park on the gravel park road. Your flight seeing option will take you to the Denali National Park Visitor Center/Train Depot where shuttles are readily available to most Denali area hotels.
If you're staying at one of the Denali Lodges in Kantishna this trip offers an alternate travel option to the Denali Park Train Depot on your departure day. Instead of an early morning, five-hour bus ride, you can enjoy your extra time at the lodge, and then depart mid-morning. We will arrive at the depot with plenty of time to make your travel connections at the park entrance.
Your Denali flight seeing journey will follow the gently rising terrain, past numerous kettle ponds, upward to the base of Denali, which stands at 20,320 ft.(6194 m.). You will spend time viewing the enormous glaciers, towering granite walls and snow-covered peaks that enshrine North America's greatest mountain. The view, no doubt, offers a perspective of Alaska that will make this adventure a highlight of your vacation. The flight is ideal for in-depth sightseeing and photography. If weather conditions allow, we will circumnavigate the entire Denali massif.
Kantishna Air Taxi (KAT) is based at the end of the 94-mile gravel road, deep within Denali National Park. Granted an exclusive concession permit by the National Park Service, KAT is the only air operator that is based within the boundaries of Denali National Park. KAT is fully insured, as well as licensed and certified by the FAA.
FAQ - If we are scheduled to fly out of Kantishna to the park entrance, and my flight is cancelled due to bad weather, what is my back-up plan?
Most Kantishna-park entrance flights depart at 10:30am. We make a weather call at 6am and will notify lodges shortly thereafter if they need to transport you by ground. If you are catching the southbound train to Anchorage or other time-dependent connections at the park entrance, you will most likely take the early morning lodge bus out. If your flight is cancelled Backcountry Safaris will refund your flightseeing cost.

Conveniently located just two miles south of the park boundary (eight miles south of park entrance) on the Parks Highway at mile 229. Denali Cabins is where Alaskans stay. Independent travelers make us the base for their Denali adventures.
If you arrive by train, we will meet you at train station and if you depart by train we will bring you back. Denali Cabins shuttles run frequently to the McKinley Village (at the park boundary) to connect with park area shuttle.
