Your naturalist guide will point out unique features while snowshoeing and identify animal tracks left in the snow from the local wildlife.
"Snowshoeing up the mountain was the coolest most awe-inspiring thing we have ever done in our lives. We have traveled the world over, and can't wait to get back to Alaska and to do another adventure snowshoe hike"
-Teri, Joel, Josh & Aaron Rosenberg (Michigan)
Backcountry Safaris offers two Alaska snowshoeing tour options or for groups custom snowshoeing adventures are available. The Girdwood Valley Explorer Snowshoeing tour is 3 - 4 hours long and departs 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The Sunset Explorer Snowshoeing tour is 2.5 hours long and departs at 4:00 p.m.
The Sunset Explorer Snowshoeing tour offers a unique Alaska snowshoeing experience. We'll explore Alaska's winter wonderland at dusk. After the alpenglow has faded we'll don headlamps. The evening air is fresh and crisp. Beams of light from our headlamps will catch delicate crystalline reflection from the snow for a new and unique perspective of this winter wonderland.
Snowshoe tours include naturalist guide, instruction, snowshoes, gourmet snack and hot beverages.
All participants must wear winter boots or waterproof footwear, bring gloves, a hat, and several layers of clothes. We find layering offers the best cold weather protection and also allows us to take off layers of clothing as we heat up from being active and add layers as we cool down. Also, bring your day pack including a large bottle of water, camera, and binoculars if you have them. We have some winter clothing available for use if you need it. Please let us know in advance.
